Time Travel Thursday: The Flappers
I'm starting a new series, about our beautiful history..
Before the WWI, women were still at home and the saying, "Women should be seen, not heard" was strictly implemented. They were the
="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibson_Girl">Gibson Girls. And women of stature were not supposed to be seen with or trying to get a job or improving her talents, just like Lady Edith of Downton Abbey is experiencing.
At the turn of the century, after WWI, women wanted change. They wanted to be heard and they wanted to take part of major decisions be it at home or the community. They call her,
. But I guess the flappers did changed a bit too much. The women are already smoking, drinking, they wore shorter skirts, and they loved parties. And they cut their hair!

At that time, some didn't like the modern woman. Maybe because they wanted so much to change that they got carried away doing very outlandish things. But many still saw them as independent women like F. Scott Fitzgerald, one of my favorite writers. In his books, a Flapper girl is very independent, knows what she wants and gets it. She's very likeable and it makes me want to be like her.
