"Caviar is to dining what a sable coat is to a girl in evening dress." -Ludwig Bemelmans

I'm so busy, I wish I have a time traveler like Hermione's. I'm reading When You Lunch With The Emperor by Ludwig Bemelmans again. I adore the man. There's a charming introduction by Andrew Goodfellow. He lived a fascinating life and I love his outlook on life. His style of art is so lovable and splendid.

You can see his delightful murals of New York  at Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle in New York. It's very classy.

"The creator of the enormously popular Madeline children's book series as well as a successful artist working for The New Yorker, Vogue and Town and Country, Bemelmans transformed the bar with clever, whimsical scenes of Central Park (including picnicking rabbits). Instead of being paid for the art, Bemelmans exchanged his work for a year and a half of accommodations at The Carlyle for himself and his family." -http://www.rosewoodhotels.com/en/carlyle/dining/bemelmans_bar/

"Ludwig the multi-talented entrepreneur, writer, artist and bon viveur whose conversational charm made him the envy of 1940s New York high society." -Andrew Goodfellow

A page from a Madeline book by Ludwig Bemelmans. This reminds me of college when the nuns at our school accompanied us.

The girl is now very active. She doesn't want to just sit anymore. She WANTS to walk and walk and walk. She wants to hold our hands while walking which we ADORE. Excellent point. Because in a few years maybe, she might not do that anymore.

What toothpaste do you use for your baby? We   Orajel for her fresh two teeth.

That's my little sweet cabbage's personality. I love this girl.
She's addicted to the nursery rhymes, she waves and stomps her foot

surrounded with the gifts from her birthday
Cheerio!

Be grand,

It was fascination...

1. Patricia Green slippers are so delicious.
2. This is perfect for pampering your feet after the long flight to Paris whilst you sip champagne enjoying the view in your room at The Ritz.
3. I love this gold one. The lining is satin and it's better than pillows. Get yours too at patriciagreen.com!
4. My grandparents' collection of Reader's Digest from the 1960s to the 1970s.
5. 1959 issue
6. I love the design, there's always artwork at the back. Wish they would  bring back this design.
7. A Johnnie Walker ad from a 1972 Reader's Digest. I love Johnnie Walker ads.
8. Isabella Bird dress. Isaac Mizrahi pumps. My grandmama's pearls.

Have a splendid weekend!

"What do you want to eat?"
"Mineral water."
"Some nice mineral water."
"Cold."
"Cold, of course. Was yesterday's cold enough?"
"Veal cutlet with sage."
"A nice veal cutlet with sage."
"And a chicory salad."
"A nice chicory salad."
"Large."
"A nice large chicory salad. You have chosen well, sir. Oh, What you are looking at is the memorial park... From the other war."
"I know. Every plant has a label with the name of someone who died."
"At the beginning yes, but now the labels aren't there anymore."
"Memory doesn't last forever."
"That's it."
"Avoid ending up on a label."
"That's it."
"Avoid eating salad from the root end."
"That's it."
"And bring me the salad so I can dress it while waiting. Otherwise, if you bring it with the cutlet, the cutlet will get cold while I dress the salad."
"Exactly. Right away sir, a nice salad."
"And a boiled egg, with the yolk soft, which you were incapable of doing yesterday."
"You'll see, sir, today, it will be the way you like: a nice soft boiled egg, with a nice soft yolk, a nice drop of yolk inside."
"And bring it to me unpeeled. I'll peel it myself. I don't want to see fingerprints on the white. Yecch! The boiled egg is an immaculate food. There's no reason to get it dirty."
"Yes, indeed, sir, I'll bring it with its nice shell intact, on a nice little plate."
"Hurry up, then."
